What I Love…

… this black and white dining room.  It’s perfection!

I rarely see a black –esp.high gloss– kitchen that looks so bright and chic, but I suppose this particular eat-in kitchen gets away with it because of its adjacency to so many windows.

And of course, there are those lovely white Panton S Chairs.  I love that the organic curves of the chair complement the clean lines of the dining table, the pendant lamps and that glossy black cabinetry!

The rest of the home is actually quite eccentric, save for the bedroom, which is as graphically decorated as this space (with a deeper color palette).  Plus, I think the home owner has a thing for black lamps…

…this apartment via Desire to Inspire.  It’s to die for.  While I wish there were more windows, or at least larger ones, the brick accent wall more than makes up for it.  I love an exposed brick wall!  Not only that, but it’s also a really eclectic and colorful fusion of mid-century modern and contemporary, with a little neo-trad thrown in for good measure.

From the Eames Lounge Chair and Noguchi Coffee Table to the Konstantin Grcic Stacking Chair…and the cowhide rugs!

I love it.  It’s a little weird, but it works.

… the Berman Residence, recently completed by Robert Berman, founding partner of Johnson Berman.  This 40-year-old apartment is located in Mies van der Rohe’s Highfield House Condominums in Baltimore.  The entire apartment is amazing, but this vignette is a great example of Berman’s aesthetic choices: mid-century modern, stylish, understated and a little playful.

I love the color palette here, too. This dark celadon green Arne Jacobsen Egg Chair, the Eames Walnut stool, the black + white Alexander Girard print with little pops of red, it’s all working for me.

There’s also a fair amount of kitsch here that I think works really well.  Gotta love doubling up of side tables here:  a tiny Tulip table and gnome side table ( I want one)!

… the simplicity of this addition to House 6.  Located in Sydney, NSW, House 6 is an exercise in modern simplicity. Built by Welsh + Major.

While I normally don’t like these really simple spaces, there’s something very meditative about this dining space.  It opens up onto the home’s garden terrace, plus… Eames DAR Chairs and Tom Dixon Pendant Lamps.  Duh!

… Freshome’s compilation of interiors featuring the Eames Lounge Chair.

And I especially love this space shown below.  A beach house is probably the last place you’d expect to see an Eames Lounge Chair, but here it is in all its glory.  I also love the fact that though this space is modern — cement ceilings + glass walls, anyone — it’s also warm and receptive and contains some beachy elements like the pebbles and the jute rug.

It’s perfection!

This dining room in the East Market House, designed by COOP15.  Now, to be sure, this is a super modern (yes, that’s a thing) home, and the architects describe the living spaces as, “tightly organized and vertical.”  What’s more is that they also chose to use only a limited amount of natural wood accents, both in the exterior/interior architecture and the interior’s design.
I do love the use of such an organically-shaped — and quite frankly, sexy — Norman Cherner Chair.  It’s a beautiful and inviting contrast to such a modern space.

Plus, I love the surrounding glass windows/doors and the view to the garden.  Perfect dining room, in my opinion!

…this modern apartment in Paris.  It’s the perfect mix of vintage and  mid-century modern pieces, plus the gray and white color palette with pops of purple, green and brown is really fresh!

The apartment belongs to French designer/architect, Vincent Parreira and is housed in a renovated 18th century house.  Love this Eileen Gray Side Table + the purple Jacobsen Egg Chair.

I don’t know if it’s the adorable dog or the black and white Panton S Chairs, but I like this minimalist house in Spain.

…seeing mid-century modern pieces in the most interesting and unexpecting places.

Take this Italian villa, for instance; it’s the picture of idyllic sanctuary.  It’s surrounded by hills of olive trees, flowers fruits and sunflower fields.  It’s really a beautiful villa, very sparingly decorated.

Yet they obviously had good sense to pair a chunky wood dining table with a set of white Panton S Dining Chairs.  I think they look quite perfect here, what do you think?
