No, you did not read that incorrectly, nor did I misstype (though that happens sometimes).
From the latest issue of Marie Claire Maison, is this upside down house in Morocco, built by Jean-Francois Fourtou.
The house itself is literally upside down…

No matter how bad (or good) the apartment, it always sounds a bit more tolerable and chic when it’s in Paris. Such is the case with this tiny, but stylish attic apartment in Paris.
Formerly a service space, the owners broke down many of the walls, created a sliding partition in the living room and used a white and gray color palette with some bright colors here and there to create a feeling of openness and spaciousness.
You can see that this apartment is longer than it is wide. I kind of like these weird windows, don’t you? It’s a small space, sure, but the slightly sloped roof and the placement of the windows creates a more dynamic feeling than you’d find in small, box studios.
Arne Jacobsen Series 7 Chairs pictured, in red.
This compact sofa in taupe is by Antonio Citterio. I bet you’ll never guess who made the chairs…
The workspace, and the living room pictured above, are where the owners exercised a bit more creativity in their decor. More seating was created by building a banquet onto the wall.

So what do you guys think about this Parisian apartment?
This is it. It’s the final Modern Classics for 2011. (Can’t believe I’ve been doing this for over a year!!). Today’s addition to the Modern Classics selection at RexKelly.com is the Jens Risom Lounge Chair.
The Risom Lounge Chair was a part of a collection designed in 1941for Knoll and is highly characteristics of Danish Modern Design: it’s minimalist, elegant and wooden. It’s a great chair for any room — the children’s room, in the bedroom or living room as an accent chair — or as a set in the den.
This entire apartment in the East Village is like a museum of mid-century modern design. Among the Eames Plywood Chairs, the George Nelsom clock and bench, among others, is the Risom Lounge Chair, upholstered in alternating colors of tan and cognac leather. Love it!
A pair of Risom Lounge Chairs and table create a serene setting in this modern abode in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood.
Replica Jens Risom Lounge Chairs are now available, in Black, for only $595 (compared to avg. retail price of $900).
The frame is constructed from gorgeous solid hardwood and heavy-duty cotton straps and is true to the original. It’s a compact and practical chair, that’s stylish as it is comfortable!
La Maddalena, an island off the coast of Sardinia on the Tyrrhenian Sea, is your typical Sardinian fare…which means I want to go to there!
Today’s house tour features the work of French architect Jean-Paul Arrivetz who, after a heart attack and a friend’s ‘fluke,’ decided to build this simple, modern abode on the island of La Maddalena. This achingly beautiful villa is simple, and open and has amazing views (amazing!) of the cliffs of Bonifacio. There are only windows where there would be walls and there’s a really even flow/balance between indoor and outdoor spaces…
Shown here is the lounge with a simple gray sofa and a white coffee table, adjacent an extended fireplace. Sliding doors (also a bad 90s movie…) made of glass separate this space from the patio.
I just love these textures; the thatched roof of the patio, the rough white brick of the side wall and the wood planks. On the patio, are one of my favorite mid-century modern chairs- the Verner Panton S Chair, in black and yellow, for a touch of color and modernity.
The kitchen efficient kitchen opens up onto the patio and features two small refrigerators that don’t obstruct the views of the cliffs of Bonifacio:
This bath tub is made of black resin and I want it:
The bedroom opens up onto a terrace, still with magnificent views. (I’m noticing a theme here.)
I’m thinking that sliding glass doors was an ingenious move on Arrivetz’s part because, while they provide the protection that regular walls and doors do, nothing feels closed off; the space really does feel open.
I wonder if I can rent this on airbnb.com?
This home appeared in the Sept./Oct. issue of Marie Claire Maison.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, today’s house tour is of a Parisian apartment, owned by French art-director and scenographer, Jean-Christophe Aumas. What makes this apartment all the more charming (Parisian apartments decorated in the 50s style are automatically charming), is that it’s located in a nearly 300-year-old convent.
Aumas spent over a year working on this apartment, resulting in a Parisian paradise with a sophisticated pastel color palette and a veritable museum of mid-century modern pieces.
Aumas says he was inspired by the look of 1950s-era Palm Springs; chic, glamorous, colorful and sophisticated.
Here, an accent wall is painted in dusty rose and bright yellow trim and what’s that? A Serge Mouille Standing Floor Lamp. The alcove houses a vintage Scandinavian chair.
A fuller view of the living room shows more mid-century modern goodies, like another Serge Mouille 3-Arm Lamp in the corner (no, I’m not jealous…), a vintage credenza, a leather-upholstered Swan Sofa by Arne Jacobsen. And get this, the daybed facing the Swan Sofa…eBay find!
And rather than use the fireplace for a silly thing like lighting fires and warmth, he used the space to, again, show off his decorating savvy. I think it’s rather tongue-in-cheek to have painted the ends of the wood logs and use them to add color and style, don’t you?
Oh look, another Serge Mouille lamp — Rotating 1-Arm Wall Sconce.
Wow…
This is definitely going on the books as one of my favorite apartments ever. Not only because of the plethora of Serge Mouille lamps, but also because of the use of color and border in a way that’s reminiscent of a graphic designer.

The following apartment that I’m about to show you is a bit different than what I usually show. But at least this studio, owned by Myriam Balaÿ Devidal, has got personality, which is more than I can say about Courtney Cox’s Malibu Home in this month’s Elle Decor. It’s pretty, but it’s so…blah.
Anyway, this apartment is rife with prints, wallpaper, colors and my favorite, mid-century modern pieces (mostly in the form reupholstered Danish chairs and lamps). What’s really great about this space is that it reflects Devidal’s career as an artist– she works in textiles, colors, and fabrics.
It’s a bright, cheerful and imaginative decoration of an early 19th century apartment, so enjoy!
Very interesting floor lamp in one of the children’s bedrooms…
A warm and cozy bathroom with Moroccan tile…
It’s a bit on the other end of the spectrum I know, but I think it works. View more pictures here.

With a terribly poor grasp of French, I tried to glean what I could. This house appeared in the April issue of Marie Claire Maison and its got a really lovely…well, everything. I’d have to say my two favorite rooms are the salon and the bathroom. The salon, with that beautiful great window and my favorite Eames RAR rocker, the vintage striped chairs by Hans Wegner and I think that’s a Verner Panton desk lamp in the corner. The bathroom is just lovely too, so neat and clean and pristine white.
Ah, yes. Looks like a vintage Eames Rocker; it looks a fiberglass shell to me anyway.
This kitchen is cute and a little bit kitchy and the magazine describes the style as “motley.” I would say that it’s accurate, but I do like the pairing of Saarinen Tulip Chairs with a chunky wooden table.
